Recipe insights & TIPS

Both of my parents have always said, “I don’t like sushi.”  They assume “sushi” means raw fish, eel sauce (which is delicious by the way) and other gross sounding ingredients.

But sushi is so much more than that.

Sushi is fresh vegetables.  Sushi is creamy sauces blended with any meat you can dream up from steak to chicken to shrimp to crab meat.  Sushi is also not just in roll-form anymore.

We happily introduce to you Spicy Crab Sushi Bake.  You do not need to buy new kitchen appliances or kitchen utensils to get the great taste of sushi at home.  Yes, there are a few unique ingredients that we had to purchase, but the kids loved this so much, those ingredients will be used again and again.

Don’t be afraid of the word “spicy” here either.  The spice is all up to you in how much sriracha sauce you choose to use.  Go with a tiny bit of spice or go all in (that’s how we do it).

Sushi at home in a 9x13 pan…enjoy!

This one reheats amazingly well in the microwave and I even found my 10-year old, Decklyn, eating it like a dip with crackers.  She’s an innovator!

What is Sushi?

Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish that has been enjoyed for centuries. It is a simple dish that is made up of vinegared rice, raw fish, and other ingredients such as vegetables, eggs, and seaweed. Sushi is often served with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.

The origins of sushi can be traced back to Southeast Asia, where people would preserve fish by packing it in rice. This technique was brought to Japan in the 8th century, where it was refined and became the sushi we know today. Originally, sushi was a street food, but it soon became popular among the wealthy, who appreciated its delicate flavors and textures.

Sushi is traditionally eaten with chopsticks, but it is also acceptable to eat it with your hands. It is important to note that sushi should be eaten in one bite, as it is considered impolite to bite into a piece of sushi and then put it back on your plate.

There are many different types of sushi, each with its own unique flavors and textures. Nigiri sushi is perhaps the most well-known type of sushi. It consists of a small ball of rice topped with a piece of raw fish. Another popular type of sushi is maki sushi, which is made by rolling the rice and fish in a sheet of seaweed.
