Looking for an easy dinner fix on a busy weekend? Throw some peppers, onions, and sausage on a sheet pan and you have the perfect sandwich!
There's no shortage of dinner choices on the internet, but I've found that the most popular are usually the most classic. Combining sausage, peppers, and onions is nothing new but cooking them all together on the one pan is definitely a great timesaver!
And by making a homemade bbq sauce to top your sausage and peppers sandwich makes it the ultimate condiment choice.
Making sausage and peppers in the oven.
I used regular Italian sausages for this recipe but you could easily switch them out for the hot version or even bratwurst. You'll notice in the images that the sausage has been sliced down the center but not all the way through.
This just cooks the sausage quicker because we don't want the peppers and onions to be ready before the meat. That's the main thing you have to remember when you cook everything on the same pan.

I really love everything from this sheet pan stuffed inside a soft french roll and topped with the easy to make homemade bbq sauce. But if that's not your idea of delicious, try these other ideas-
- Add to pasta and top with the sauce and some red chili flakes.
- Make your own healthy quinoa or cauliflower rice bowl and add a huge scoop to it.
- Serve it as-is if you're following a keto or paleo diet.
- Top with an egg for an amazing brunch option.
My favorite things about this recipe.
When you roast peppers and onions in the oven they become sweet, and that means they're a perfect match for the sweet Italian sausage. I love how the sausage gets slightly crispy around the outside and even though the sausages are split and bigger than they would be whole, I think they're easier to eat.
The sauce is a nice touch and easy to put together. After making your own bbq sauce at home, you'll wonder why you've been buying it all this time.
Ketchup is the main ingredient and as long as you stick to this base you should always turn out with something tasty. I added some brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and pickle juice.
The pickle brine balances out the sweetness from the brown sugar. Alcohol is another great ingredient to add but takes a little more cooking time to tame the flavor like this bourbon sauce.
I also love making bbq sauce with fruit, the end flavor is incredible! Peaches, blueberries, and cherries are my favorites to use.
