Nobody can escape the massive back-to-school campaigns that are around right now, even if you aren't a parent you'll still breathe the same advertising air as us mom's and dad's.
After a busy summer packed with camps, vacations and so many cool memories made, I'm ready to gently launch my kids back to school. This means new uniforms, shiny shoes, stiff backpacks and fantastic hair.
It also means making lunch again! I think every parent goes through a moment of wondering if they might be sending the kids to school with a "healthy" lunch.
Don't forget everyone's idea of healthy is very different, but I like to stick to a few solid rules and they seem to have been working over the years.Protein- Turkey, chicken, boiled eggs or in this case, salami. Fruit- Strawberries, grapes, melon, blueberries and apple slices.
Dairy- Cheese, sticks or squares you know you're kids favorite shapes. Yogurt is huge in my house and is always in the fridge.
Treat time- Trail mix or a small cookie. It doesn't have to be a whole bag, but at least something to finish up with. I know a lot of things come in small individual sizes now, but zip lock bags are so handy for dividing items up.
I asked my kids what I should make for this post and they were all about the sharp cheddar wrap with salami. I suggested that we break out the panini grill and lightly toast it, making that sharp cheddar cheese nice and melty on the inside with those crispy burnt pieces that ooze onto the grill.
Once that was taken care of, I had them add the fruit choice. One wanted grapes and the other strawberries, so the compromise was that we add the strawberries to Tillamook's Marionberry Greek Yogurt with a sprinkle of granola.
A few packs of single serve Tillamoos and we were finished.Visit the Tillamook site for even more lunchbox ideas and coupons! Use the hashtag #dairydoneright and follow Tillamook onInstagram,Twitter or Facebook.
