Cinnamon Scones with Butterscotch Chips

Freshly baked cinnamon scones with butterscotch chips and sugar on top!

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar plus 1 tbsp for sprinkling on top
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 4 ounces unsalted butter, cold
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ¾ cup butterscotch chips
  • ¼ cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk


  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • in a medium sized bowl, whisk together the flour, ½ cup sugar, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Grate the butter into the flour mixture and then use your hands to rub it into a crumbly mixture.
  • Add the buttermilk and butterscotch chips and mix gently until a dough forms.
  • Dump the dough onto your flour dusted work surface and gently knead a few times until the dough is in a ball shape.
  • With a rolling pin, roll the dough into a circle about 8-10 inches wide and about an inch thick.
  • Cut the circle into 8 even sized wedges like a pizza an dtransfer to your prepared baking pan.
  • Brush each scone with the cream/milk and sprinkle the remaining tablespoon of sugar on top.
  • Place in the oven and bake for 15-17 minutes.
  • When the scones are baking , make the glaze.
  • In a small bowl combine the powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  • Warm the glaze in the microwave for 10 seconds.
  • Once the scones are done drizzle the glaze over them and serve at once.
