What do you look for in a restaurant when you plan to eat out? If you’re like me, you might be a tad picky. I have my favorite go-to places but as a person who lives and breathes food every day, I’m always looking for new flavors and experiences.
I was very fortunate to be able to have dinner at WP24 by Wolfgang Puck. My excitement peaked even more when I researched the menu and found that it is run by Wolfgang Puck and the style was modern Asian cuisine, probably my most favorite flavors out of any food I like.
We arrived early and relaxed with some drinks in The Nest, a secluded bar area situated next to WP24. Once our table was ready we were met by Heather who took great care of us for the rest of the night. She did a fantastic job explaining and recommending items from the menu and they were all really first class picks. The ambiance is very peaceful and comfortable, but the view is spectacular. There are tables all around the giant glass windows which look out over the city. We experienced the lights at night, but I think seeing the city in daylight would be just as breathtaking.
The food was what I would expect from a place with Chef Puck’s name on the door.
The Bao Buns were so tender I barely needed to chew the pork belly inside. Crispy suckling pig, shredded pork with a crispy surface gave two great textures. The Crystal Chive Dumplings were stuffed with king crab, shrimp, and pork with a sweet and spicy sauce.
For our entrees, we chose Sonoma Lamb chops. Served medium rare with a cilantro dressing and cooked perfectly.
I’m a big seafood fan and when I can get various types added to one main dish, I’m excited. The Assam Curry Seafood “Hot Pot” was exactly that. It’s very mild in spice level so if you prefer hot, you may be able to ask them to adjust the spice level.
For our side dishes, we ordered some Pork Fried Rice with Lop Cheung sausage and Stir Fried Summer Squash which turned out to be my wife’s favorite. It was caramelized with pearl onions, garlic and pea shoots.
Dessert didn’t let us down. The Vietnamese Coffee Torte with Coffee Ice Cream and Cacao Nibs was delicious. Megan Potthoff is the Executive Pastry Chef and comes with great experience having trained in France and worked with Chef Puck at Spago.
I loved my experience at WP24, the food and service were above and beyond. Chef John Lechleidner has taken some already great flavors and made them even more amazing. I think the location is perfect for people who may be attending conferences at the hotel or sports games nearby. For a more informal dinner, visit Ford’s Filling Station, and American gastropub run by Chef Ben Ford also in The JW Marriott Los Angeles.
