Recipe insights & TIPS

Why is breakfast for dinner so popular and why is it never cereal or oatmeal? It always turns out to be something really special and over the top, maybe like french toast and bacon with maple syrup?

Let’s chit-chat about the bacon. Being an ambassador for Omaha Steaks, I had a chance to come up with the perfect way to serve this Steak Cut Bacon. It could have been alongside a runny yolk egg or sandwiched between crispy green iceberg leaves and juicy sliced beefsteak tomatoes, but the french toast was the clear winner.

This bacon could never be called thick cut, or even extra thick, steak cut is perfect. It’s got some size.

The bacon is available in three flavors, Peppered, Cajun and Applewood Smoked. Luckily for us and the rest of the world, you can buy it in a combo pack and taste all three flavors without having to make any tough decisions.

Of course, I tasted all three and my favorite was the black pepper. That crunchy peppery thick crust was just like spicy candy bacon.

The french toast is simply slices of brioche dunked in heavy cream, orange juice, and egg. Add some vanilla and cinnamon  and whisk together, easy.

Then there’s the butter. Melt some big chunks in the pan and cook each slice until each side is golden brown and still a little custard-like in the center. If after you’ve cooked a few slices and the pan is a little butter-dirty, just wipe it clean with a paper towel and start with some new butter.

Dust the whole plate heavily with powdered sugar and drizzle generously with some maple syrup.

Fork some toast and bacon together and swirl in the syrup. Best breakfast dinner combo ever…
