Fresh homemade Asiago Herb and Garlic crusty bread! This is such an easy recipe you'll wonder why you're buying bread at the store!
This homemade bread is quick to make and the reward is crusty, fresh smelling bread made in your own kitchen.
Making bread doesn't have to be difficult but I understand why some people just don't want to attempt it. It can be a little bit of a science to come up with perfectly risen bread with a crusty exterior and that soft chewy interior, but luckily there are some great books available to help you navigate your way through the world of yeast and flour!
Ready, Set, Dough not only has a cool name (right!) but it's a bread baking cook book written with easy-to-follow instructions, images of complete recipes and important information that's super easy to understand. Rebecca Linda mood from Foodie with Family is the author and a good friend of mine so I know her recipes are solid.
She's also responsible for another book, Not Your Mama's Canning Book and hopefully many more to come! It was hard to decide which recipe to try from Ready, Set, Dough but who doesn't love a good bread with garlic and herbs and especially when it's made with Asiago.
Check out how easy this is to make and once you slice through that crusty exterior and taste it, I bet you'll be thinking about what other flavors of bread to make next!
Is This a yeast based crusty bread?
Yes it is. While some breads are made without yeast, this easy crusty bread requires dry yeast.
Does this bread take a long time to rise?
Compared to some bread recipes I've made this is a very quick recipe to make. Just make sure you place the bowl with the dough to rise in a warm humid place if you can. If not though don't worry, it might just take a little bit longer to rise to the size it should be.
Best ways to eat this crusty bread!
- Grilled cheese sandwiches
- Turkey BLT's
- Serve with soft salted butter or good quality olive oil
- Tuna melt sandwich
- Avocado toast with a poached egg on top (my favorite!)
- Cut up any leftover bread into cubes and make the best croutons
How long will my bread last before it begins to go stale?
I would recommend eating this crusty bread the day you make it. The recipe makes two loaves so putting one in an airtight zip-lock bag and freezing it is s a good idea.
Wrap any leftovers in foil and keep them on the counter. To freshen it up place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes in a 400 degrees oven or toaster oven.
