All about air fryer sweet potato fries

Fries are good, cook sweet potato fries are good but air fryer sweet potato fries are the best! This easy recipe gives you the best of both worlds, with sweet potato fries and no messy oil to clean up or get rid off. Usually, if I buy frozen sweet potato fries, I can never get them to become crispy like regular fries no matter how hot I cook them in the oven. But air frying takes care of this issue and delivers a healthy-tasting sweet potato fry, crispy on the outside and with that awesome sweet potato flavor on the inside.

There's a couple of steps that need to be followed such as soaking the cut fries in water before you cook them. This draws out the starch, you'll see the water become very cloudy. If you skip this part, your fries can become sticky on the outside and the starch will prevent them from getting a nice crispy exterior. Also you may have to make these sweet potato fries in two separate batches depending on the size of your air fryer. If you overcrowd the basket, the fries won't cook evenly and won't be crispy. Cook them in a single layer to avoid this problem and shake them around often while cooking.

FAQ's about making sweet potato fries

Are sweet potato fries better for you than regular fries? Even though sweet potato fries have just as much carbohydrates as regular potato fries, they do have much more
vitamins, A and C. They also have more fiber.

Do I need to peel my sweet potatoes? It's a personal choice but I always like to keep the peels on any potato I cook with. I prefer the texture and the extra fiber.

Can I skip the garlic? Definitely, these are just as good with salt, pepper and your preferred condiment for dipping.

Why are my air fryer sweet potato fries soggy? Moisture will create soggy fries so make sure you don't overcrowd the air fryer and shake them around halfway through cooking.

Is a sweet potato the same as yam? Not really. A yam is brown on the outside and looks more like a potato except for the shape. Sweet potatoes are the ones with the reddish skins and orange inside. They are sweeter than yams and less starchy.
