I’ll try to keep this week’s recap short and sweet, but I really wanted to share this note with everyone.
I was sitting on the couch working on something late last week, maybe around 11 pm. My daughter tip-toed through from her bedroom and shoved this note into my hand. I read it but was more irritated with her because she wasn’t already asleep, she is not a morning person. It wasn’t until the next day when I found it on my laptop that I really paid attention to it, and wished that I had done when she handed it to me. Wise words from a 10-year-old.
That same 10-year-old has been begging me lately to take her to the library a lot recently. We’re lucky to have a great local library within walking distance from our house, I love hearing her ask the librarian questions and searching the aisles for her favorite series.
This week was our first class field trip of 5th grade. We visited the Long Beach Museum of Art and the kids had a blast.
There’s so many awesome craft beers available now, I wonder how domestic beers like Budweiser, Coors and Miller can still survive in the market. My favorite right now is a Saison, light and fruity but with a deep yeasty flavor. Modern Times Brewery make an amazing variety and if you see the can on the shelf…buy it.
Have you ever had a craving for a fresh baked cookie just before bedtime? Many hands should be raised if we’re honest. Cookie Zombie will actually deliver warm cookies to your front door, but if they’re not in your area you can still get lucky. This recipe for one large cookie from Cooking Classy is awesome.
Do any other parents have a hard time with homework? I can’t deny that the struggle is real for me, but this guide is really helpful.
Every winter we take a vacation with a few other families where we share one house and take turns to cook while the kids have one big giant sleepover for 4 or 5 days. This year we’ll be heading to Mammoth Mountain to have some fun on the slopes and eat way too much good food.
Soups are everywhere. This Sausage, Potato and Spinach needs to happen soon. Follow that with a One-Pot Spanish Chicken and some Chocolate Mocha Cake and you have the perfect meal!
Happy eating friends,
Gerry.
