More skewers! Sorry guys, this where I say that “Sorry not sorry” thing. Grilled Hot Dog Skewers with Tater Tots, bun-free!
Summer time is just around the corner and along with July Fourth, my grill is ready to go! Hamburgers and hot dogs are probably the number one food to grill in the summer and for so many good reasons. Also let’s not forget it’s opening day for many baseball teams around the country and maybe we should switch things up a bit from the usual bun and hot dog stadium snack!
Lightlife’s Meatless Veggie Smart Dogs are a great choice when you’re looking for something a little more healthy or plant protein friendly, and with only 50 calories per sausage it’s a total win- win. Not all protein needs to be sourced from animals so you can confidently fill up with Lightlife knowing that your protein needs are easily being met.
Like most of my recipes I always try to see if I can come up with something a little bit out of the box. Soooo, Instead of just grilling these Smart Dogs and shoving them in a bun, I decided to make skewers with them. The tater tots were a little bit of an afterthought because you have to have something else on a skewer, right?
Of course I could have used some chopped peppers or red onion but where’s the fun in that when it comes to dipping them in ketchup and mustard? Actually the Smart Dogs and taters taste weirdly delicious when dipped together! These are also super-fun for the kids, I had some help making them from my two and with some supervision, my daughter loved flipping them on the grill. I can’t wait until she can take care of dinner plans and I’ll just sit back and relax. Isn’t that the plan, to teach our kids to cook so I can get a day off?
